The Network of Independent Travel Agencies (NITAS) and SKAL International Makati, both under the leadership of Chairman Robert “Bobby” Lim Joseph Jr., expressed their support for the appointment of Liloan, Cebu Mayor-Elect Christina Garcia-Frasco as the new Secretary of the Department of Tourism (DOT).
Frasco is the daughter of Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia and was the campaign spokeswoman of Vice President-Elect Sara Duterte-Carpio.
“Your appointment as the new Secretary of Tourism is great news for our country, particularly to the travel and tours industry,” Joseph told Frasco in a recent message.
“Under your leadership, I am confident the country’s tourism industry will boost and recover, and that the Philippines will become one of Asia’s top tourism destinations once again,” he added.
SKAL International Makati is a member of SKAL International, the world’s largest global network of tourism professionals promoting tourism and friendship worldwide.
NITAS, on the other hand, is a nationwide organization of licensed travel agencies, tour operators, and related businesses that aims to promote the growth and development of the travel industry.
In a statement after accepting the appointment from President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Frasco vowed to lead the DOT in revitalizing the country’s tourism, which was among the industries severely affected by the pandemic.
Frasco thanked Marcos for entrusting her with the portfolio in tourism, which is among the priorities of the incoming administration.
“I am eager to support president-elect Marcos’ vision to revitalize tourism so it may significantly propel the Philippines’ post-pandemic economic growth,” she said.
