Citing positive changes in communities, Sen. Christopher Go reiterated the importance of continuing President Rodrigo Duterte’s holistic approach to fighting illegal drugs in the next administration.
“One advice of President Duterte to me is to continue the war against illegal drugs, also the fight against corruption and criminality,” said Go, vice-chair of the Senate Committee on Public Order.
“We are hoping that with the coming administration, the drug campaign will be even more strengthened,” he added.
The senator then cited how the Duterte Administration’s campaign against illegal drugs has reduced crime rates in the Philippines.
According to recent reports from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, under the Duterte Administration, almost 15,000 high-value drug targets were turned over to authorities.
In addition, more than P88 billion worth of illegal drugs, including P76 billion worth of shabu, were confiscated.
Go then acknowledged the other programs and measures to protect peace and order that President Duterte initiated.
He stressed that their continuation would help sustain the gains made under the current administration and ensure long-term security for the country.
The senator also reassured that he and President Duterte are willing to help the next administration in the best way they can.
Meanwhile, as an advocate for long-term sports development in the country, Go urged Filipinos to engage in sports and avoid vices.
He authored and co-sponsored Republic Act No. 11470, establishing the National Academy of Sports (NAS) in 2020. The law aligns with Go’s vision of providing a dedicated learning facility where promising young athletes can further hone their talents while getting a quality education.
The NAS Main Campus is located at the New Clark City Sports Complex in Capas, Tarlac.
The NAS is a government-run academy aimed at developing the country’s future athletes by offering quality secondary education with a special curriculum on sports for gifted young Filipinos who want to enhance their physical and mental capabilities in sports.
It officially started its first academic year on September 13, 2021.
