Bicol wage earners get P55 increase given in two tranches

Minimum wage earners in the Bicol Region will eventually be bringing home fatter pay envelopes.

This after the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) issued an order granting them a P55-raise, bringing the minimum wage rate to P365 a day for all sectors.

The increase however would be given in two tranches; the first P35 upon effectivity of the order, and the remaining P20 to take effect in December this year.

The last wage order in the region took effect on 21 September 2018.

The RTWPB also gave a P1,000-monthly pay hike for domestic workers chartered cities and first class towns in the region, and P1,500 for those in other municipalities, elevating their monthly pay to P4,000.

The new wage order is expected to protect around 94,042 domestic workers in Bicol. The previous wage order for domestic workers took effect on 02 June 2017.

The Board, comprised of representatives from the government, management, and labor sectors, conducted public hearings on 26 April 2022 in Naga City, Camarines Sur and on 28 April 2022 in Legazpi City, Albay.

The new wage orders will be submitted for review and would take effect 15 days after publication in a newspaper of general circulation.
