Quezon City councilor and congressional aspirant Patrick Michael Vargas, vows to expand and institutionalize the government’s free medicines program for poor families in all government hospitals nationwide.
The Libreng Gamot Para sa Masa Program (LINGAP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) was launched in March 2017 in six hospitals nationwide to provide indigents free access to prescription medicines.
As of June 2018, the program has covered 29 hospitals nationwide, and has served 64,778 indigent patients.
A bill providing free medicine for the poor filed by Rep. Alfred Vargas, is pending in Congress. Alfred is a brother of Patrick Michael.
Under Vargas’ leadership, 12,527 beneficiaries have received medical assistance, while more than 40,000 free vaccines were handed out in QC District 5 with the help of the local government and private partners.
Councilor Vargas is currently running for congressman to succeed his brother in the Fifth District of Quezon City in the May 9 elections.
