Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio still held sway in the second vice-presidential survey conducted by Pulse Asia, results of which were released Wednesday with over a month left before the May 9 national elections.
Meanwhile, broadcaster Raffy Tulfo continues to lead candidates for 12 Senate seats, and four party-list groups were projected to earn the maximum three seats to the House of Representatives in the second survey conducted by the polling firm from March 17 to 21.
The survey was conducted with 2,400 respondents and has a ± 2% error margin at a 95% confidence level, Pulse Asia said.
Duterte-Carpio, Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats chairperson, increased her lead over second-running Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, garnering a 56-percent preference rating or a three-percent increase from the previous survey.
According to Pulse Asia, public sentiment regarding preferences for vice-president remained “essentially constant” between February 2022 and March 2022.
President Rodrigo Duterte’s daughter was the favored vice-presidential candidate of big pluralities to overwhelming majorities across geographic areas (44% to 83%) and socio-economic classes (55% to 63%), the pollster added.
The rest of the respondents were undecided on whom to elect as the next VP (2%), were not voting for any candidate for the post (1%), or refused to identify their choice for vice president (0.4%).
Sotto scored 20% in the Pulse Asia poll, with Senator Francis Pangilinan at third with 15%, followed by Dr. Willie Ong with 5% and House Deputy Speaker Lito Atienza with 1%.
Manny Lopez got 0.3%, Walden Bello was at 0.1%, while Carlos Serapio and Rizalito David both received 0.01% scores.
At the same time, Tulfo remained on top of the senatoriables list in Pulse Asia’s survey, posting a 65.6% rating—a slight decrease from his 66.9% rating in February and 66.1% rating in January this year.
Tulfo was followed by Antique Rep. Loren Legarda with 58.3%, Taguig Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano (56.4%), Sorsogon Governor Francis Escudero with 54.4%, former Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar (52.4%), and Senator Sherwin Gatchalian (50.3%).
Other aspirants who have a statistical chance of earning a Senate seat are reelectionists Miguel Zubiri (50.1%) and Joel Villanueva (43.9%), actor Robin Padilla (42.5%), former Vice President Jejomar Binay (42.5%), and former senators Jinggoy Estrada (36.5%) and JV Ejercito (35.9%).
With the “magic circle” of 12 given the survey’s margin of error are Senator Risa Hontiveros and former Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista with 35.6% and 34.3%, respectively.
In the party-list survey, Pulse Asia noted that ACT-CIS, Ako Bicol, Ang Probinsyano, and An Waray groups were poised to gain the maximum three seats to the House, as all scored better than 3.0 rating points.
Senior Citizens Party-List, Gabriela, 4PS, and Ako Ilocano Ako would get two seats in Congress each, while 43 other groups were poised to earn a seat each, the pollster added after its March survey.
