Over the years, the stars who graced the Grammys made bold statements through their fashion choices, allowing them to live rent-free in their audience’s minds.
Luckily, the 64th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony held on Sunday (Monday in Manila) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas didn’t disappoint as the stars added their spin to new and previous fashion trends.
For instance, black ensembles made a comeback, but it’s not the simple black look audiences already saw on other red carpets.
The 19-year-old Fil-Am singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo made her Grammys debut memorable by wearing a figure-hugging black Vivienne Westwood gown with pink accents and a choker, finished off with long gloves to imbibe a 90s body-conscious look.
On the other hand, Grammys darling Billie Eilish opted for a deconstructed black suit jacket fashioned into a cape to match her hair and square sunglasses. Instead of heels and true to her style, Billie wore flat black boots that screamed both comfort and style.
Singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile also chose a black ensemble by donning standard black trousers but took it to the next level by pairing it with an intricately beaded and colorful jacket.
The naked dress trend, first seen at the Oscars, also made an appearance on the Grammys red carpet. Singer-rapper Doja Cat embraced the trend and wore a sheer sea-foam green Versace gown with a plunging neckline. Megan Thee Stallion also bared some skin, but instead of wearing a sheer dress, she chose a one-shoulder gown with a slinky leopard print and a high leg slit.
Another fashion trend prominent during the awards night was adding a pop of color to stand out.
Rapper Saweetie paid tribute to Madonna’s “Material Girl” look by donning a bright Valentino fuchsia ensemble composed of a daring bikini top, a full ball gown skirt, and elbow-length gloves complemented by a diamond choker.
The men, on the other hand, didn’t go wrong with a classic black suit but decided to add a personal touch by adding a dash of vibrancy to their looks.
Justin Bieber, one of the top nominees, wore an oversized suit with black platform Crocs with a bright pink knit hat.
However, other artists thought that wearing a colorful hat to the Grammys red carpet wasn’t going to cut it. DJ Diplo and Colombian singer J Balvin both rocked bright blue hair with all-black suits. The pop of color made their looks more eye-catching.
Balvin also wore jewelry, including earrings, a necklace, and rings, to further solidify his ensemble.
Lastly, Australian rapper The Kid Laroi also joined the men in opting for a classic black suit but used his flowing locks to bring some vibrancy to the red carpet. Instead of going for blue, he dyed his hair a bright pink and wore a beaded necklace and silver brooch.
