Iloilo proved that it remains Vice President Leni Robredo’s bailiwick, making history after over 40,000 Ilonggos filled the Iloilo Sports Complex and mustered its biggest political rally to date.
Iloilo’s native son, Senator Franklin Drilon, before introducing Robredo onstage, described the event as the “biggest political rally” in the province, while Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas gave the 40,000 crowd estimate.
Drilon said in jest that the huge crowd only showed that Ilonggos can match the Bicolanos’ love for Robredo, who was born in Naga City.
With only 72 days left before election day, Robredo also told her Guimaranon supporters that she would push for the completion of the Negros-Guimaras-Iloilo bridge, which she described as a “life changing project” for the people if she gets elected as the country’s next President.
More than a thousand of Robredo’s Guimaranon supporters gave the presidential aspirant a festive welcome at the San Miguel Provincial Capitol Gym in San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras.
Decorated with pink buntings and banners, the sports complex was packed with people dressed in pink shirts waving their homemade signs. Robredo was welcomed by Nueva Valencia Mayor Manny Galila.
Meanwhile, supporters of Robredo now have a fun and easy way of keeping up with the hardworking presidential aspirant through the Leni App on Android and iOS.
The Leni 2022 App is a phone application designed to solidify support for the Vice President in the digital age by bridging the gap between the official campaign and the different grassroots groups supporting Robredo.
The app was spearheaded by the Kaya Natin! Movement for Good Governance and designed specifically to point in the right direction those who want to campaign for Robredo’s presidential bid.
In the runup to the May 9 elections, Robredo and vice presidential bet Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan have been assured of critical backing by one of the country’s biggest organizations of teachers vowing to carry the tandem to victory.
“Sa panahon na tumitindi ang kahirapan sa bansa dahil sa kapabayaan at korapsyon sa loob ng gobyerno, sinusuportahan natin na mga kandidatong may malinaw track record na nakikiisa sa mga panawagan ng mamamayan para mas mataas na sweldo para sa mga manggagawa at ligtas na balik-paaralan para sa mga guro at mag-aaral,” ACT Teachers said in its endorsement of Robredo and Pangilinan.
ACT Teachers, which has 180,000 members nationwide, also pushed for the senatorial bid of former party-list representative Neri Colmenares and labor leader Elmer Labog.
Robredo noted how Ilonggos mobilize fast to extend help whenever there are calamities.
She also said that Ilonggos always choose the right public servants for their province.
“Isinasabuhay nila ang gobyernong tapat. Kaya naman sa Iloilo, umaangat ang buhay ng lahat,” Robredo said.
Iloilo’s people’s rally for Robredo coincided with the 36th anniversary of the People Power Revolution, and in her speech, the presidential candidate shared with supporters her memories of how millions of people toppled the 20-year Marcos dictatorship.
