Eduardo Roy Jr., the acclaimed director behind thought-provoking movies Pamilya Ordinaryo, Lola Igna, and Fuccbois, has passed on according to an announcement from his bereaved family.
Roy perished on February 21 at the Saint Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City.
“He died of a massive pulmonary embolism due to hospital-acquired pneumonia. He had been diagnosed late last year with Burkitt’s Lymphoma Stage IV,” the official statement said.
Burkitt’s Lymphoma is a form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system, where cancer starts in immune cells called B-cells. It is associated with impaired immunity and can be rapidly fatal if left untreated.
The news of the late director’s passing shocked his fans and friends, who took to social media to express their grief and post tributes for Roy.
In the span of his career, Roy had accumulated a total of 16 wins from both local and international film festivals for his work in Indie (independent) movies.
A wake will be held from February 24 to 26, at the Arlington Memorial Chapels Hall A in G. Araneta Avenue, Quezon City, where guests can visit the remains and pay respects to the world-renowned director who contributed to the excellence of Philippine cinema.
