Some people are content with watching their idols from afar. But we have heard of so many stories of fans going too far with their obsession even taking their “love” to a creepy, and at times, criminal level. I guess, this is the best way to describe Ray An Dulay’s Takas.
The movie revolves around the encounter between Jake (Teejay Marquez) and Belle (Janelle Lewis). The two main characters in the story.
Jake is a movie star, while Belle is a simple suburban lady.
They met an unfortunate fate. While they thought to have survived the crisis, a dark secret was unveiled. It tells the story of how a star survived in the hands of a psychopath.
Without giving away too much, the film narrates a story of captivity and tortures, of love and obsession, hate and rejection. There will be a run for life.
The film focuses on one’s twisted mind and one’s ordeal for survival when an avid fan’s attraction turns into a dangerous obsession.
“It revolves on survival of a star in the hands of a psychopath that sets up a trap to isolate themselves away from the outside world and creates a new world where only the two of them exists,” Dulay says of his film.
Dulay is a pioneer independent actor. He began his showbiz career with a lead role in Bath House,” a film by Cris Pablo. He then starred in other mainstream movies and television series. He completed his directorial workshop at the UP Film Institute under Director Maryo J. Delos Reyes.
His directorial debut was Potpot, a story written by his wife Joyzell Regalario Dulay, won awards in several award-giving bodies. Later, he started producing movies Palo-Palo (2011) and Turo-Turo (2015), which starred AJ and Enchong Dee. It became a finalist at the Metro Manila Film Festival New Wave Category. He now owns a production company and has also been the marketing head of multiple production outfits.
“My goal is to make artistic and senseful films. Takas is far from perfect but I’d like you to focus more on what the film showcases rather than looking for what it doesn’t have,” he states.
Takas was written by Regalario Dulay over a decade ago. She said she was just waiting for the perfect timing to have it produced for the big screen.
Katrina Lyn Javier Polotan, also known as Kate Javier, is the producer of the movie. It is her debut project under Hand-Held Productions.
Completing the cast are David Chua, John Lapus, Easy Ferrer, Marvin Yap, and Rob Sy. the film is streaming on ktx.ph until February 19.
