Actor Enchong Dee posted bail late Monday night after a judge was able to process the necessary papers for him to leave detention after office hours. An arrest warrant was issued for Dee in connection with a cyberlibel case.
The 33-year-old actor voluntarily surrendered to the NBI in Quezon City on Monday afternoon.
It will be recalled that Dee is facing a P1 billion case filed by DUMPER Party List Representative Claudine Bautista-Lim for an alleged “malicious tweet.”
Although the actor had already apologized, Bautista-Lim still proceeded with the case against him noting that “the malicious tweet” caused her anxiety and humiliation.
“The impact on my and my family’s reputation left us no choice but to file cases against those responsible for causing us so much grief and worry, which almost led to me losing our baby, and which adversely affected some of our constituents’ trust in us,” Bautista-Lim said.
Dee had to be detained for a few hours as he surrendered late in the afternoon and it was beyond office hours.
Prior to his surrender, authorities tried to serve a warrant for his arrest at his last known address in Cubao, Quezon City but to no avail. Apparently, neighbors informed the police that Dee has not visited the area for some time already.
Dee is facing Criminal Case No. 03(2022) for Libel (RPC Art 353) in rel. to 355 of the RPC in further rel. to Sec 4(c) (4) and (6) of RA No 10175.
