Malditas face Taiwanese in AFC playoffs

Two goals in the first half was enough for the Philippine Malditas national women’s team to make it to the quarterfinals.

But four more markers in the second half gave the Malditas a 6-0 rout of Indonesia, and assured them of their best finish in the Asian Football Confederation Women’s Asian Cup 2022.

Katrina Guilliou and Sarina Bolden knocked in the first two goals in the sixth and 27th minutes, lifting up the spirit of the Malditas, who finished Group B with a 2-0-1 win-draw-loss record.

A fired-up Malditas’ side then found more opportunities to score as team skipper Tahnnai Annis struck twice in the 56th, and in the 82nd minutes.
More goals came from Dominique Randle and Malea Cesar in the 74th and in the 94th minute of added time.

Heading to the quarterfinals with their best finish so far, the Filipinas are set to meet Chinese Taipei in the playoffs on Sunday.

Australia, which swept their three-game assignment in Group B with their 2-1 victory over Thailand, meets South Korea, which played second following its 1-all draw with Japan in Group C.
