Foundation comes to typhoon ‘Ursula’ victims’ aid

Tacloban—Victims of Typhoon “Ursula” in Leyte recently received relief packages through SM Foundation’s Operation: Tulong Express that saw volunteers from SM Tacloban, Savemore, SMOR and SVTA.

Over 1,300 families from five barangays in Tacloban City who were affected by Typhoon ‘Ursula’ receive relief packs from SM Foundation’s Operation Tulong Express.

The relief effort was facilitated by SM Foundation Executive Director Debbie Pe Sy, Bien C. Mateo, Kristine Ceno, Kristine Yap, Troy Camarista and Athens Cajucom.

SM Mall Manager Marlon Tan led the relief efforts that benefitted 1,324 families in Tacloban City and in the municipality of Palo.

Among the recipients of OPTE were Barangay 108 (586 families), Brgy. 107 (310 families), Brgy. 94 (324 families), and Brgy. 62B (104 families).

Belle Kaagapay donated relief packs for Barangay 108.

Leyte was placed under a state of calamity on December 26 after “Ursula” devastated the province. The typhoon destroyed crops and livestock, damaged houses and infrastructure, and caused flooding in Leyte on Christmas Day. 

On Christmas Eve, over 1,000 families were evacuated from the municipalities of Abuyog, Babatngon, Barugo, Bato, Dulag, Isabel, Jaro, La Paz, Ormoc, Palo, and San Isidro to ensure their safety.
