The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo on Thursday said it is open a chance of unification among opposition bets to be able to form a formidable team to defeat the administration bets.
Ibarra Gutierrez, Robredo’s spokesperson, said they cannot speak for and tell the moves of the other candidates, but they welcome the withdrawal of other candidates to give Robredo a bigger chance to win.
“Since time immemorial, the position of the Vice President and our campaign is that we are open to such dialogue. It is hard to tell what is there to happen. At the end of the day, the decision has to come from individual candidates,” he said.
“We all know that each campaign has its own dynamics. Each campaign has its own perspective. Isn’t it they have their own consideration,” Gutierrez added.
He said a lot of things have yet to happen.
“There is still a long way to go. It is just December, and we are not yet in 2022. There are still so many possible things to happen,” the spokesman said.
He cited the cooperation between Robredo and Senator Manny Pacquiao in relief operations for the victims of typhoon Odette.
The super typhoon left nearly nothing in the coastal village of Roxas in Palawan after it battered the province and parts of the Visayas and Mindanao last week.
Robredo visited Roxas on Wednesday to bring relief assistance to the families affected by the typhoon.
The Vice President has been going around the areas hit by Odette to assure survivors that they will not be alone in their ordeal and work with the local government units for their rebuilding efforts.
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) donated 500 sacks of rice to the families affected by Odette in the towns of San Vicente and Roxas in Palawan on Wednesday.
Personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard and the Philippine Navy delivered them to San Vicente and Roxas, which were among the hardest hit areas in the province from the National Food Authority (NFA) warehouse in Puerto Princesa.
Robredo visited Palawan and other provinces that bore the brunt of Odette’s onslaught to coordinate relief operations and find out from the local government officials how the OVP can help in their recovery and rehabilitation efforts.
The Vice President also visited San Vicente town, one of the areas in Palawan that super typhoon Odette almost leveled to the ground with its heavy rains and strong winds.
Roofs were torn off, electric posts, and coconut trees were knocked down, and structures were unrecognizable. The town also suffered casualties.
VP Leni offered her condolences to the family of Jocelyn Binasbas who perished in the typhoon, leaving behind 13 children. Their father died in 2018, also in a storm.
Robredo extended a burial assistance for Jocelyn and promised her children that she would help them recover from this tragedy. VP Leni and her team brought relief packages to the evacuees.
Some of the residents became emotional and cried as they recounted their ordeal to her.
The Vice President met with Mayor Amy Alvarez and other local officials to coordinate the relief operations. They also discussed the recovery efforts for San Vicente.
