Agatha Wong claimed her second gold medal in the 30th Southeast Asian Games on Tuesday at World Trade Center in Pasay City when she topped the women’s taolu taijijian in the wushu competitions.
It was a satisfying bounce back victory for Wong who tallied a dominant 9.65 score to win the event where she had to settle for silver during the past competition in 2017.
Wong also won the women’s taijiquan event last Sunday. She said all the sacrifices she made and the hard work she put in has been rewarded with the twin victories.
She added that her winning is just starting to sink in and that she was grateful for the opportunity to perform before her countrymen and even win the twin gold medals.
Vietnam’s Thi Minh Huyen Tran took home the silver submitting a score of 9.63. Brunei’s Basma Lachkar tallied 9.62 to bag the bronze medal.
Jones Llabres Inso, Johnzenth Gajo and Thornton Sayan teamed up to bring home the bronze medal in taolu duilian. They scored 9.49 to grab a podium finish. Every member of the Philippine wushu team thus took home a medal.
Seraf Naro Siregar, Edgar Xavier Marvelo,and Harris Horatius of Indonesia took home the gold in taolu duilian with their score of 9.54 score. Brunei’s Sain Majdurano Joel Majallah and Muhn Safiee Shayferan Roslan tallied 9.50 to bring home the silver medal.
Wushu is among the most popular and most practiced martial art sport in the world. It is prevalent not only in Asia but also in Europe and the Americas.
