Mariveles, Bataan—The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Bataan and the municipal government of Mariveles have agreed to remove and dispose solid waste material deposits in the Aguawan River that leads to the popular Aguawan Beach.
Raul H. Mamac, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer, and Mariveles Mayor Jocelyn P. Castaneda signed the memorandum of agreement at the latter’s office on Monday.
Based on the agreement, the DENR will provide P1 million for the project under the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program. The municipal government prepared the program of work and financial plan.
The DENR will conduct testing of extracted waste to determine presence of heavy metals and contaminants and identify the third party for the extraction, transportation, and placement of solid waste material deposits.
The local government of Mariveles will closely coordinate with the DENR Bataan technical personnel in the implementation and completion of the project.
Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu had declared Aguawan as the first swimmable beach along the 192 kilometers of Manila Bay shoreline last April.
