Duterte awards five wounded Army soldiers

President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday conferred the Kampilan medal on five Army soldiers who were wounded in military operations carried out against Islamic insurgents in war-torn Mindanao.

President Duterte paid a visit on the wounded soldiers at the Metro Davao Medical Research Center on early Sunday morning to check their condition after the bloody encounter with the rebels.

“He [Duterte] then conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu, Rank of Kampilan on the injured members of the security forces,” Malacañang said in a press statement.

Among the recipients of the Kampilan medal are Cpl. Alexander Flauta and Privates First Class Ruel Sumilhig, Allan James Cabildo, and Sonny Buladaco.

The Order of Lapu-Lapu is awarded to a government worker or a private individual who has rendered extraordinary service or made exceptional contributions to the success of the President’s campaign or advocacy.

The Kampilan Medal in the Order of Lapu-Lapu is granted to a person who was seriously wounded or suffered great loss of property as a direct result of his participation in such action.

The soldiers sustained injuries in separate clashes against the members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters and the Dawlah Islamiyah Turaife Group in rural parts of Mindanao.

The Commander-in-Chief granted cash assistance to the injured military personnel, and pledged to provide full support and protection to them, the Palace added.
