Macatula, Tan join World Cup in Indonesia

National champions Krizziah Tabora-Macatula and Merwyn Tan fly to Palembang, Indonesia tomorrow (Saturday) to represent the Philippines in the Qubica AMF Bowling World Cup international finals on Nov. 16-22.

Merwyn Tan and Krizziah Tabora-Macatula are shown with Joey R. Puyat, executive vice president of Puyat Sports, after receiving their plane tickets and allowances.

Macatula, 28-year-old women’s international titlist in Hermosillo, Mexico in 2017, is hopeful of adding another crown to her name, while Tan, 20-year-old marketing freshman at St. Benilde (Antipolo), is optimistic of doing better than last year when he finished 11th in Sam’s Town, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Macatula and Tan earned the right to gain slots in the international finals by emerging as national champions last September 13.

Since winning the Philippine event, Krizziah said she’s been playing every other day in preparation for the prestigious world plum. Macatula is only the third Filipina bowler to win the BWC.  The first two PH champions are the late Lita dela Rosa and Bong Coo.

On the other hand, Tan bowled at least five times a week since he topped the men’s national finals for the second straight year.  “Talagang fight to the finish ito,” he said. “Kailangan maganda ang maging finish ko ngayon.
