Colors were abundant as 1,400 running enthusiasts trooped to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology’s Fun Run held recently at SM City Marilao.
The fun run is a fundraising campaign of the Bureau in celebration of the National Correctional Consciousness Week.
With an aim to rehabilitate and transform persons deprived of liberty into normal and responsible citizens, all proceeds will be donated for the training of local inmates for the many livelihood programs of the Bureau.
These programs are designed to usher in a smooth transition once inmates are released from jail, the BJMP said in a statement.
Participants of the 5K run included families and jail officers from Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, Nueva Ecija and Bataan, as well as employees of major sponsors like SM City Marilao and Smart.
During the race, runners were doused in vibrant colors at every one-kilometer passage. This encouraged runners to finish the race and create their own palette and happiest hue.
“We are pleased to be able to support this worthy cause” shared SM City Marilao mall manager Engr. Emmanuel Gatmaitan.
SM City Marilao Assistant Mall Manager Engr. Janette Aguilera said the mall has always been a partner of BJMP in their fun runs over the past two years.
In August, SM City Marilao was recognized by the BJMP during the 28th anniversary celebration held in San Fernando, Pampanga.
Under the Department of the Interior and Local Government of Region III, BJMP presented the plaque of recognition to SM City Marilao for supporting the Bureau’s improvement of its jail management programs.
The Fun Run celebration is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 551 series of 1995, which aims to recognize and value the dignity of every PDL and to guarantee full respect for human rights.
