Dragonpay Corporation, the Philippines’ pioneer and market leader in alternative payment solutions, is celebrating its 9 th year in the business with an award, new business, and partnerships.
Started in 2010, Mr. Robertson “Dick” Chiang founded Dragonpay Corporation with the vision of creating an alternative payment system for online purchases in lieu of traditional payment platforms like credit cards. Now, consumers who chose to transact via Dragonpay will just have to go to a convenience store or to a bills payment center to complete the process.
As a proof of its success, Dragonpay was awarded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST PHL) as one of the recipients of the prestigious 2019 Outstanding Technology Commercialization Award also known as Gregorio Y. Zara Medal for its successful commercialization. Dragonpay was also recognized by the DOST and NAST PHL as a valuable technology and relevant in reaching untapped markets to engage in the e-commerce revolution that is still rapidly evolving in the Philippines.
In line with its 9th anniversary celebration, Dragonpay also launched its latest innovation, the SureTayo App. It is an escrow service owned and operated by Dragonpay that receives the payment from the buyer and once the item was delivered and received, SureTayo releases the payment to the seller, eliminating the fear on scammers and bogus transactions.
To further strengthen the business, Dragonpay also inked partnerships with several companies to improve its services and increase its consumer base. One of the highlights this year is the collaboration with Shopify, an international e-commerce company providing online business solutions to existing and aspiring merchants. With Dragonpay, Shopify clients all over the globe, can easily transact in the Philippines because of Dragonpay’s wide network of payment channels.
To date, Dragonpay has completed over 42 million transactions and has gained over 14 million unique users already. It also has over 20,000 physical partner locations, online banking, and mobile payment channels.
These include options like online banking at most of the major local commercial banks, physical Automated Teller Machine (ATM) payments, over-the-counter (OTC) cash payments at banks and retail establishments (supermarkets, groceries, department stores, courier centers, remittance centers), and electronic wallets or credits (Dragonpay Credits, Coins.ph, PayPal, GCash).
“For us, 9 is more than a lucky number. It is a symbol of hard work, perseverance and technological innovation. We are so thankful that we are on our 9 th year in the business already, but our work is not yet done. The e-commerce revolution in the Philippines is just getting started and we will make sure that Filipinos, whether a buyer or a seller, can always rely on Dragonpay’s technology,” said Robertson “Dick” Chiang, the founder and Chief Technology Officer of Dragonpay Corporation.
