PH female booters rout Timor-Leste in Thailand

The Philippine women’s national team marched to their second win in the ASEAN Football Federation Women’s Championship 2019 last weekend in Chonburi, Thailand.

The Filipinas pulled off a 7-0 rout over Timor-Leste at the Institute of Physical Education in Chonburi, Thailand.

They got two goals from midfielder Camille Rodriguez and defender Hali Long.

Rodriguez struck in the 23 and in the third minute of injury time in the first half while Long scored on a penalty kick and in the 76th minutes.

Quinley Quezada drew first blood after hitting the net in the 5th while Sara Castañeda added another in the 13th.

Charisa Lemoran struck in the seconds minute of added time to help send the Philippines on top of Group A with six points.

“Timor-Leste showed that they can play good football and they made it hard for us. We created a lot of chances, but we still need to improve,” said coach Marielle Dimzon in an online statement.

The Philippines will next meet host Thailand on Wednesday.

The Filipinas got off to a rousing start with a a 3-0 win again Malaysia last Thursday.

Goals from Rodriguez and Long gave the Philippines team their first win in Group A.

It was a slow start, for the Philippines before they broke the deadlock in the 40th minute.

Rodriguez unleashed an easy tap-in after the ball ricocheted off the cross bar.

Long then headed in the second goal six minutes in to the second half. 

After that, Claire Lim’s free kick found the defender inside the box, who sent a looping header sailed over and past the goalkeeper.

The Philippines currently lead Group A with 3 points. They will next face Timor-Leste on Saturday.
