Stylist: ‘Don’t follow trends, focus on personality’

Here’s something we’ve noticed: if you pick apparel and accessories based on trends, you’d most likely end up thinking you have nothing to wear in a few months or so even if there’s literally a huge pile of clothes staring at you.

Style expert Pam Quiñones focuses on personality when styling.

Because, in case you haven’t heard this gem yet, trends come and go.

Style expert Pam Quiñones, who’s made a living spotting trends, providing fashion advice, and dressing individuals, says the most vital part of the styling process is “getting to know people’s interests, preferences, and body types, among others.”

Quiñones brings her innate understanding of the balance between form and function to this year’s edition of Stylist Closet. The fashion event features visual displays, pop-ups, and style talks across Ayala Malls.

For Stylist Closet 2019, she went to several Ayala Malls to handpick the pieces to comprise the four key trends to spotlight. She clarified, however, the trends are not literally seasonal trends.

“We tried to focus on fashion personalities to curate the key trends,” said Quiñones.

The fashion stylist identified the four key trends as Pureness (clean and contemporary; featuring urban cool style, layering, airy fabrics, and shades of blue and touch of metallics); Expressive (opulent and maximalist; highlighted by vintage ‘80s style, leather, metallic, and prints on prints); Natural (raw and polished; features natural fabrics which are ideal for tropical countries; and Quiñones’ favorite); and Unpredictable (non-conformist style marked by athleisure, oversized outerwear, and bright colors).

Quiñones picked items from various brands present in Ayala Malls, including Mango, Topshop, GAP, Springfield, Joe Fresh, Tory Burch, Lacoste, Banana Republic, Marks and Spencer, Steve Madden, Rustan’s private labels, Penshoppe, Kamiseta, Plains & Prints, Apple & Eve, and Maldita, to name a few.

In addition to shopping curated looks, shoppers can book an online appointment for a personal styling session with Quiñones and her team from Qurator Studio.

The fashion festivities continue today until August 18 with displays, pop-ups, and stylists’ fashion presentation at select malls.

Style Closet kicked off at Greenbelt and Glorietta on July 4, followed by style talks from July 5 to 7.

Today until July 14, Stylist Closet is at UP Town Center. It is making a stop at Marquee Mall for a stylists ramp display today before heading down south on July 19-21 at Alabang Town Center.

From July 20 to August 18, Stylist Closet runway preview will be intermittently showcased at Market! Market!, Ayala Center Cebu, Harbor Point, TriNoma, and Solenad.

The fashion event will wrap up at Bonifacio High Street with a closet spectacle from August 16 to 18, and a roundtable discussion on August 17.

“Pam and our line-up of speakers are not only pushing people to shop, but urging them to shop smart. They are not teaching fashion, they are teaching style,” Ayala Malls marketing group director Eunice Velasco said in a statement.
