The Olympic distance 5150 as well as the Sunrise Sprints are for those who are joining a triathlon for the first time including graduates of the Alaska IRONKIDS who may find the 70.3 IRONMAN too daunting a challenge according to Sunrise Events General Manager Princess Galura. It was an easy decision to partner with Penong’s to hold the race in Davao.

“They (Penong’s) are a homegrown brand. They are really from Davao. When the idea to hold a 5150 in Davao came up. That new triathletes needed to start at shorter distance. Penong’s said it was perfect for them. Sunrise Events will stage a race in Davao. Penong’s owners were able and willing to be the title sponsor. It’s a good preparation for the IRONMAN 70.3 in Cebu on August 11,” said Galura.

Penong’s owner Maria Teresa Regis said their company is focused on a healthy lifestyle.

“Penong’s is not about just food. It is about health. We are concerned with the health of people especially of those in Davao. We want to develop that awareness of the importance of health among people,” said Regis.

Co-owner Vanessa Mae Uy Santos added that a family dining together at their favorite eatery is the first thing you think about Penong’s.

“Penong’s is all about family. Triathlon for us, based on our personal experience, is bonding of the family doing a shared activity. And it’s a healthy lifestyle also,” said Uy Santos.

“We want to be the model, especially to our employees, to have a healthy lifestyle. It’s not just work, work, work. You need to have other diversions aside from work.”

Regis said they eagerly grabbed at the opportunity to team up with Sunrise Events to hold a world-class race in Davao which will bring Penong’s before a global audience.

“Our goal is to be recognized from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. We like the objective of Sunrise Events. We admire their marketing strategy that is why we partnered with them,” said Regis.

The Olympic distance Penong’s 5150 Triathlon Davao includes a 1.5km swim, a 40km bike and a 10km run. The Sunrise Sprint includes a 750m swim, a 20km bike and a 5km run.

The event will be held through title sponsor Penong’s Barbecue Seafood and Grill, venue host Davao City, Waterfront Insular Hotel, official logistics and couriers partner 2Go Express, official apparel F2P, official hydration Nature’s Spring, major sponsor David’s Salon, media sponsors One Sport on Cignal, Trilife Magazine, Asiatri.com, Finisher Pix, marketing partners Alaska, AlcoPlus, Australia Harvest, Cetaphil, Devant, Sun Life Financial, Regent Foods, Sanicare, Timex and registration partner Active Network.
