Blu Girls lose double-header in US tourney

The Philippines played their best game so far in a double-header in Day 3 but fell short of scoring a breakthrough win in the USA Softball International Cup on Wednesday at the South Commons Softball Complex in Columbus,  Georgia, USA.

The Cebuana Lhuillier-backed Blu Girls bowed to local team Scrap Yard Fast Pitch 1- 3 and then lost to Mexico, 2-3, later in the day.

Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) president and Cebuana Lhuillier president and CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier remains confident that the team will get better.

“This experience will be very instrumental to the team’s improvement. Like I said, we came here to help  prepare the Blu Girls to the 2020 Olympics  where we qualified earlier,’’ Lhuillier said.

“ASAPHIL and Cebuana Lhuillier is committed in advancing its grassroots programs  for both boys and girls like the intercollegiate and inter secondary meets, the summer Grand Slam tournaments, and other essential activities to reach the objectives he has set for the NSA.”

Scrap Yard Fast Pitch took an early lead with a single in the first inning and never looked back.

The Philippines tried to catch up but could only muster one run, six hits and did not commit a single error.

Riflayca Basa took the loss for the Philippines. She lasted three innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out one.

Against Mexico, the Blu Girls  watched the game slip away early and could not recover.

The pitching was strong on both sides but. Mexico pitchers struck out ten, while Philippines sat down one.

Isabella Dino took the loss for the Philippines. She lasted four innings, allowing four hits and three runs while walking one.

Chelsea Suitos hit a home run for the Blu Girls in the sixth inning.

The Philippines’ next assignment is Japan.
