Malolos—Expansion team Mindoro and Caloocan barged their way to the win column of the MPBL Lakan Season even as Bulacan got back on track after hurdling powerhouse Basilan late Tuesday night here at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium.
The Tamaraws edged the Paranaque Patriots, 63-61, behind another solid game from Mac Baracael.
A PBA journeyman, Baracael knocked in 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, but he got plenty of help, particularly from Sandy Cenal, who was more active on the offensive end.
Cenal tallied 16 points behind a steady 7-of-10 shooting from the field.
Like Mindoro, Caloocan also stopped its bleeding.
Winless in three games, the Victory Liner-backed Supremos put an end to their misery by bringing down the favored Zamboanga-Family’s Brand Sardines, 83-74.
Almond Vosotros, the high-scoring guard, presided on offense anew for the Supremos as he finished with 31 points to help arrest his team’s alarming skid.
In the nightcap, host Bulacan put the clamps on the usually explosive Basilan squad to complete a huge 65-55 upset win.
“We really want to keep the score low,” said head coach Britt Reroma. “We know that Basilan is a high-scoring team, so we decided to engage them in a defensive battle.
