Newly elected Senator Bong Go on Wednesday vowed to push for the establishment of safe and permanent evacuation centers to give temporary shelter to fire victims.
With the evacuation centers, Go said fire victims can immediately be transported to these places.
At present, fire victims are temporarily relocated to barangay centers, plazas, gymnasiums, basketball courts, and worst, there is no evacuation available for them at all.
Sometimes, fire victims stayed with their relatives due to the absence of a place to go.
He said fire victims evacuation sites should also have enough emergency packs like blankets, water, medicines, flashlight, and ready relief goods.
During a visit to the fire victims in Barangay Ibabang Dupay, Lucena City, Go discovered no evacuation center was available around the area.
The former aide of President Rodrigo Duterte is also eyeing to review fire safety and prevention measures through a more intense fire prevention awareness drive, particularly in informal settlements where accidental fire incidents take place more often.
