With the Department of Tourism promoting the Philippines as a premier shopping destination, the country’s leading mobile wallet, GCash, is boosting cashless payments in popular tourist spots and malls nationwide.
GCash, operated by Globe Fintech Innovations Inc. (Mynt), is a strong government partner and is committed to the development of cashless shopping tourism, which will benefit the growing number of tourists that prefer doing cashless transactions to bringing wads of cash when traveling.
There are around 60,000 merchants across the Philippines that are onboard the GCash QR system. These include popular malls in Metro Manila, souvenir shop Island Souvenir in Cebu, and micro-entrepreneurs such as trinket vendors in Boracay.
“As the #1 mobile wallet in the Philippines, we want to be able to cater to that growing demand, while supporting the government in its efforts to promote the Philippines as a destination,” Mynt president Anthony Thomas said.
