Calvin Abueva of the Phoenix Fuel Masters has been suspended indefinitely by the Philippine Basketball Association after two incidents in the ongoing PBA Commissioner’s Cup
In addition, PBA commissioner Willie Marcial slapped a fine of P70,000 on the Phoenix forward — P50,00 for a Flagrant foul penalty 2 on import Terrence Jones, and P20,000 for a verbal altercation with a fan.
Abueva was in the middle of two different on-court encounters last Friday in a match against Blackwater.
Abueva was involved in a altercation with a female fan who was later identified as the girlfriend of Elite rookie Bobby Ray Parks. He was also seen on video making obscene gestures towards the female fan and her companions.
In the game against the TNT KaTropa last Sunday, Abueva was called for a technical foul during the first quarter for a second motion against Anthony Semerad.
He was later thrown out of the game for a Flagrant 2 foul after hitting Jones with a clothesline on a loose ball play.
Abueva's foul was a retaliatory act, the PBA said, because a few seconds earlier on the previous play, Abueva was hit in the groin by Jones, which the referee failed to call. The low blow left Abueva crumpled on the floor before he stood up and tried to run at the import, with cooler-headed teammates and officials stepping between them.
Before the F2 was called, Abueva even asked the officials to watch his next move. When he was thrown out, he seemed to enjoy his predicament as he even danced on top of the officials' table, as well as flashed an obscene gesture in Jones' direction.
