Leading broadcast company GMA Network was honored as the “Best TV Station” at the 17th Gawad Tanglaw (Gawad Tagapagpuring mga Akademisyan ng Aninong Gumagalaw) Awards held on May 8 at Museo de Muntinlupa.
Alongside the recognition, various Kapuso programs and personalities were also recognized by the award giving body.
Front Row took home the “Best Public Affairs Program” award while Reporter’s Notebook was named as “Best Documentary Program.” The Atom Araullo Specials, meanwhile, was conferred as the “Best Educational Program” and comedy anthology Dear Uge as the “Best Comedy Show.”
GMA News TV’s flagship evening newscast State of the Nation with Jessica Soho won as “Best News Program.”Investigative Documentaries, on the other hand, brought home the “Best Investigative Program” award while I Juander was awarded as “Best Magazine Show.” Reel Time was recognized as “Best Documentary Special” and Wagas bagged the “Best Drama Anthology” award.
GMA News’ Ivan Mayrina won as “Best TV Male Anchor” while Cesar Apolinario and Mariz Umali were named as “Best Male Field Reporter” and “Best Female Field Reporter,” respectively.
Ken Chan and Rita Daniela of the hit series My Special Tatay were given the “Best Lead Performance in a TV Series” award.
For the film category, Gabby Eigenmann won as “Best Supporting Actor” for his role in Citizen Jake while Inagaw na Bituin star Therese Malvar received the “Best Supporting Actress” award for her performance in School Service.
Lastly, Atom Araullo was among those who won the “Best Screenplay” award for Citizen Jake.
The Gawad Tanglaw Awards recognizes the best in the fields of film, television, radio, and print. The board was composed of professors from different universities as well as media practitioners.
