NLEX posted net income of P5.7b in 2018

NLEX Corp. posted a net income of P5.7 billion in 2018, up 24 percent from P4.6 billion in 2017, due to higher vehicle traffic in North Luzon Expressway and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway.

The company’s toll revenues reached P13 billion last year from P11.5 billion in 2017 also on higher traffic volume.

Vehicle traffic  rose 7 percent in NLEx and surged 15 percent in the SCTEx following the integration of the two roads and the opening of additional lanes in 2017.

Non-toll revenues reached P208.3 million last year from P174.3 million in 2017.

North Luzon Expressway spans approximately 95 kilometers, or 527-lane kilometers, and serves an average of 237,046 vehicles a day. It is the main infrastructure backbone that connects Metro Manila to Central and Northern Luzon.

SCTEx, meanwhile, is a 94-km, 2×2 expressway stretching from Subic-Tipo to La Paz, Tarlac, connecting the special economic zones in Subic and Clark and Olongapo City, to Tarlac City.

NLEx earlier secured approval from the Toll Regulatory Board to collect P10 in additional toll in the open system and P0.18 per kilometer in the closed system, respectively.

Included in the adjustments are the new add-on toll of P6 applicable to the open system with the completion of the Harbor Link Segment 10 and the first tranche of the approved periodic adjustments due 2013 and 2015 amounting to an additional P4 in the open system and P0.18 per kilometer in the closed system.

The elevated 5.65-kilometer NLEx Harbor Link Segment 10 traversing Valenzuela, Malabon and Caloocan City recently opened for motorists.

Under the new toll matrix released by the Toll Regulatory Board, Class 1 vehicles (ordinary cars) traversing Quezon City, Caloocan City, Valenzuela City, Malabon, Meycauayan and Marilao sections will pay an additional P10.

Class 2 vehicles (buses and small trucks) on the same corridor will pay an additional P23 and Class 3 vehicles (large trucks/trailers) will pay an additional P29.

The open system, where a flat rate is charged per entry, includes Balintawak, Mindanao Ave., Karuhatan, Valenzuela, Caloocan, Meycauayan and Marilao interchanges and toll plazas. These cover the urban section of the expressway where traffic congestion is more pronounced.
