Judy Ann Padilla and Kristine Bandolis try to put an end to Angel Denopol’s domination of the girls’ 14-and-under play as they banner the field in the PPS-PEPP Kapatagan national age-grouper which got under way at the Kapatagan and Maranding courts in Lanao del Norte over the weekend.
Padilla gets the top seeding while Bandolis heads the lower draw of their age group division which the third ranked Denopol ruled in Misamis Occidental and Molave, Zamboanga the last two weeks of the long-running tournament presented by Dunlop.
But the 12-year-old Denopol, from Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte, appears a cinch to make it three straight in row in her age bracket though she remains wary of her rivals led by Kristina Bandolis, Hannah Caberte, May Gonzales, Rio Aguinid, Erl Dominguez and Nina Bantilan among others.
Meanwhile, Kristine Bandolis, Angel Vosotros and siblings Judy Ann and Carmel Padilla are tipped to dispute the 16-U crown with Carmel Padilla and Zeiah Toribio bannering the premier 18-U side of the Group 2 tournament put by Palawan Pawnshop headed by president/CEO Bobby Castro and hosted by Byron Atay.

Eric Tangub also eyes a two-title feat in the boys’ category with the Tucuran, Zambo del Sur bet bracing for a tough challenge from Lex Estillore, Steven Sonsona and Brent Cortes in the 18-U class and from Nash Agustines, Sebastian Lagamon, Estillore and Cortes in the 16-U division.
Agustines, from Oroquieta, and Aslan Carbonilla face a tall order in the full-packed 14-U roster which also drew RJ Cagatan, Christop Sonsona, Kurt Bandolis and Miguel Iglupas while Vince Bering, Sean Esick, Cyd Villamar and Andrei Tan set out to dispute the 12-U diadem. The five-day tournament is sanctioned by the Unified Tennis Philippines made up of PPS-PEPP, Cebuana Lhuillier, Wilson, Toby’s, Dunlop, Slazenger and B-Meg.”‹
