Barely a day before the commemoration of the Day of Valor or Araw ng Kagitingan, Camarines Sur Rep. Luis Villafuerte on Sunday vowed to push his proposal for the grant of a P3,000 across-the-board increase in the monthly pension of war veterans, and the provision of similar benefits and health insurance coverage for Filipino comfort women.
He said that under his proposed House Bill No. 9047, around 7,000 living Filipino war veterans residing here or outside the country, shall benefit.
The proposal shall also amend the current law to allow their surviving spouses or eldest children to receive such benefit.
Under HB 9047, the monthly pension, including a proposed increase, shall be granted directly to a living war veteran.
According to Villafuerte, the bill “aims to express the country’s gratitude to those who have dedicated their lives for our freedom” covering veterans of World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam wars.
He proposed HB 9046 seeking the grant of a P3,000 monthly pension Filipino comfort women during World War II.
