Navotas closes part of R10 on Sundays to turn it into a Family Zone

To provide an open space for Navoteño families to bond and pursue a healthy lifestyle, the Navotas City Government has closed part of the Radial Road 10 (R10) and declared it as a Family Zone.

Through City Ordinance No. 2018-23, the city will close the stretch from the Navotas bus terminal to the Old Fishport Road every Sunday, from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m.

In his speech during Sunday’s launching of the Navotas Family Zone, Mayor John Rey Tiangco stressed the importance of having open spaces in the city.

“Having open spaces is vital to the well-being of each Navoteño. By declaring this stretch as Family Zone, we provide not only a place for Navoteño families to bond but also for everyone to jog, bike and do other physical activities,” he said.

Tiangco said he hopes the Family Zone will help bring parents and children closer to each other and strengthen the relationship among Navoteño families.

The launching featured a zumba marathon participated in by family-beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, members of the C4 Aero-Taebo Civic Organization, and the Navotas Funbikers Association.

After the program, Tiangco, together with Vice Mayor Clint Geronimo and other city officials, proceeded to the Navotas Centennial Park and played patintero and a 3-on-3 basketball shootout.

Tiangco expressed plans for the city to hold weekly activities at the Centennial Park including Guhit Pinas-Navotas art jams, Philippine game tournaments, a basketball clinic with the Navotas Clutch, and others.
