Co-league leader Phoenix Fuel looks to continue riding its hot start as it shoots for solo leadership in the 2019 Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup.
Toting a 2-0 slate, the Fuel Masters go for a third straight win when it faces hyped-up Columbian Dyip (1-0) at 4:30 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum today.
In the second game, winless teams collide as TNT KaTropa and NLEX, both at 0-2, square off at 7 p.m.
Through two games, Phoenix has shown tremendous resolve and character as it got both its wins in thrilling fashion.
The Fuel Masters took down Meralco and the Tropang Texters both in overtime as they are coming through in the clutch thus far this season.
Phoenix coach Louie Alas admitted that his team’s two grueling wins were tiring, but he is hopeful that his team can ride its momentum against the unpredictable Dyip.
“Two overtime wins in two games, kapagod,” said Phoenix coach Louie Alas. “We’re looking to carry the momentum we built from our two tough wins.”
The Dyip was equally as impressive in its debut game as it pulled off a stunner after shocking defending champion San Miguel Beer, 124-118, last week.
Top overall pick CJ Perez backed up all the hype as he had an impressive debut, scoring 24 of his game-high 26 points in the second half to lead Columbian to the big upset.
Contrary to the fate of the aforementioned teams, NLEX and TNT KaTropa are both yet to find success in two starts.
At the very least, one of them is bound to break into the winning column when they test each other out.
