College of St. Benilde waylaid San Sebastian College with a quick, merciless 25-17, 25-16, 25-14 victory yesterday to advance to the Final Four in the women’s division of the 94th NCAA volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
Rachel Anne Austero and Klarissa Abriam presided over the carnage when the two combined for 24 points as the Lady Blazers claimed their seventh win against a loss, a share of second with the San Beda Lady Red Spikers and, most importantly, a spot in the Final Four.
There awaits Arellano University, the reigning champion who is on the cusp of sweeping the elimination round with a pristine 8-0 record, and SBU, last year’s losing finalist.
The Lady Blazers will try to cap their elimination campaign with a triumph over the already eliminated Mapua Lady Cardinals on Monday.
The Lady Stags slipped from a share of fourth spot with the Perpetual Help Lady Altas (4-2) to joint fifth with the Jose Rizal U Lady Bombers (4-4).
LPU walloped EAC, 25-17, 25-16, 27-25, in women’s play and LPU outlasted EAC, 21-25, 25-21, 25-20, 16-25, 15-11, in the men’s section—both non-bearing games.
EAC surprised LPU, 27-25, 25-19, 17-25, 25-16, to remain in the magic four with a 5-4 card in the juniors’ category.
The Junior Pirates absorbed their second defeat against six wins to slip to No. 3.
