Janet Lim-Napoles has been transferred to the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology reported to the Sandiganbayan on Monday.
Taguig City Jail Warden, Chief Inspector Editha Roallo Balansay, told the anti-graft court's First Division that Napoles was transferred on Jan. 4.
“The said (person deprived of liberty) Janet Lim-Napoles was properly turned over to Correctional Institution for Women, Mandaluyong City, escorted by 12 STAR Team escorts from BJMP-National Capital Region Police Office, headed by Superintendent Bernade Ruiz and 11 personnel of this unit,” Balansay said.
BJMP spokesman, Chief Inspector Xavier Solda, confirmed that Napoles was committed at the CIW around 4 p.m.
Fearing for her life, Napoles earlier asked the court to be allowed to stay in Camp Bagong Diwa.
She also questioned the commitment order issued against her that was signed by Associate Justice Edgardo Caldona, the junior member of the First Division.
But Associate Justice Efren dela Cruz said the internal rules of the Sandiganbayan allows Caldona to stand as the division chief in case the chairperson and the senior member go on an official leave.
Napoles was sentenced to life imprisonment owing to her alleged misuse of the Priority Development Assistance Fund, or pork barrel, of former Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. amounting to P224.5 million from 2006 to 2010.
The Sandiganbayan, however, acquitted Revilla after the prosecution failed to prove that he had amassed ill-gotten wealth by channeling his pork funds to the Napoles-led foundations.”‹
