The disgruntled spitfire was shipped by TNT KaTropa to the Beermen in exchange for Brian Heruela, David Semerad and two first round picks (2019 and 2020) in the Philippine Basketball Association yesterday.

This move came less than 24 hours after the Tropang Texters placed Romeo on the trading block after going AWOL (Absent without leave) for more than three weeks without any communication.

TNT was determined to immediately trade the three-time scoring champion, it acquired just last July from NorthPort Batang Pier. The Tropang Texters want to start fresh minus the problems that Romeo presents.

San Miguel quickly snagged the chance as it quickly arranged a deal to land Romeo and add more firepower to its already star-studded backcourt composed of Chris Ross, Alex Cabagnot and Marcio Lassiter.

Upon receiving the deal, PBA commissioner Willie Marcial and his crew reviewed the transaction before giving his approval.

The Beermen, in a separate transaction, also got Paul Zamar from the Blackwater Elite for two-second rounders (2021 and 2022).

Those weren’t the only transactions on a busy Monday.

In yet another trade, the Elite shipped starting center Poy Erram to the NLEX Road Warriors in exchange for rookies Paul Desiderio and Abu Tratter. The Road Warriors selected the pair fourth and seventh in the Rookie Draft last Sunday.

Romeo is a product of Far Eastern University. He won the 2011 UAAP Rookie of the Year and was a member of the UAAP Mythical Team during his junior and senior years.

He was half of FEU’s dreaded backcourt duo (beside RR Garcia). In UAAP Season 76, he was awarded Most Valuable Player and became only the third guard to win the award following Garcia and PBA legend Johnny Abarrientos.  He averaged 22.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.6 steals to lead the league in points and steals while finishing third in assists.

He was selected fifth overall in the 2013 PBA draft by GlobalPort.
