NU, FEU battle provincial teams

Another batch of exciting young dribblers strut their wares tomorrow with title favorites National University and Far Eastern University going up against two provincial teams in the Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championship ‘Rain or Shine Cup’ at the SGS gym in Quezon City.

The NU Bullpups, bannered by Batang Gilas veteran Carl Tamayo and wily guard Terrence Fortea collide with the Dagupan City’s University of Luzon Golden Cubs at 12 noon, while the RJ Abarrientos-led FEU Baby Tamaraws test the mettle of University of Cebu Webmasters at 1:45 p.m.

Reining NCAA titlist Mapua (Malayan) University collides with Xavier School at 3:15 p.m. in a game that will see Paolo Hernandez and Dan Arches of the Red Robins going up against Miguel Tan, Jadrick Lim, Darren Sytin and Ryan Yu of the Golden Stallions.

Also worth watching is the 9 a.m. showdown between former NCAA champion La Salle Greenhills and University of Santo Tomas with both teams determined to win the annual event for the first time.

The tournament that offers P50,000 to the champion school officially starts today with league chairman Terry Que of Rain or Shine and vice chairman Eduard Tio of Freego ready to welcome the participants.

Also backing the event are Dr. Cecilio Pedro of Hapee Toothpaste, Rudy Yu of Dickies Underwear, Dioceldo Sy of Blackwater Sports, Jimi Lim of IronCon Builders, Jimmy dela Cruz of Che’Lu Bar and Grill and Leoncio Chua of MEC Networks.

Reigning champion San Beda University was playing against University of Cebu at presstime.

Also playing in the opening day of the event also supported by Masumax Food Supplement, Cherrylume, SUMO GI Sheets, Molten and Choi Garden were Jose Rizal University vs UL, La Salle Greenhils vs Hope Christian HS and Chiang Kai Shek College vs Mapua.
