Hong Kong superstar and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon actor Chow Yun Fat in 2010 starred in a biopic film entitled Confucius on the life of the great ancient teacher and philosopher revered all over East Asia. In the Philippines on Sept. 28, Anvil Business Club led the multi-sectoral celebration of Teachers Day and Confucius’ 2,569th birth anniversary with guest of honor China Ambassador Zhao Jianhua giving a speech at the Chinese Garden of Rizal Park, Manila.
Other speakers at Anvil’s Teachers Day celebration were Cong. Lito Atienza, Anvil Business Club chairman Wilson Lee Flores, president Patrick Cua and chairman emeritus George Siy. Anvil officers on that day signed an agreement to donate college scholarships for students of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP).
The highlight of the celebration was the ancient ceremony of three bows by China Ambassador Zhao, Anvil Business Club officers and leaders of multi-sectoral groups before the Confucius monument (which was donated by Anvil in 2009 under then chairman Wilson Lee Flores and president Eduardo Cobankiat). Fresh rose flowers were then given to leaders and representatives of public school teachers and private school teachers.
Chiang Kai Shek College students performed traditional Chinese dance numbers, while University of the Philippines (U.P.) students also performed Chinese and Filipino music for this unique celebration.
