Balanga, Bataan — Streaking teams Bataan and Cebu sustained their winning runs late Saturday night in the resumption of the MPBL Datu Cup.
Playing in front of another sold-out crowd here at the People’s Center, the Bataan Risers outplayed the Pasay Voyagers, 77-60, as Rob Celiz led the way with 16 points.
The ex-pro who had a brief stint playing for the Blackwater Elite in the PBA and Alab Pilipinas in the ABL, also grabbed eight rebounds and had five assists, his all-around plays rubbing off on the rest of the Zetapro-backed Risers, who also picked up their fifth win in as many games at home.
In stretching its winning streak to 11, Bataan kept its hold on the solo lead, but head coach Jojo Lastimosa doesn’t want to see his team stopping from here and push the squad to go the extra mile.
“We want to see how far we can go,” added Lastimosa. “Either as a player or as a coach, you don’t want to feel contented on what you’ve achieved, because in reality, we haven’t achieved anything yet.”
The 11-game winning streak is also the longest by any team in the league.
Like Bataan, Cebu also kept the good times rolling as the Casino Ethyl Alcohol-backed Sharks edged the Pasig Pirates, 56-53.
It was the fourth straight win for the Sharks, who improved to 5-8.
Pasig, owner of the tournament’s worst record, absorbed its 10th loss in 12 games.
