Maine Mendoza stars in her first ever sitcom alongside Vic Sotto and Wally Bayola.

In an interview with Manila Standard and some select members of the entertainment press, Vic Sotto admitted that the new sitcom will train the spotlight on the phenomenal star who’s going to dip her toes on situational comedy for the first time.

“She has improved a lot.  She’s a very good actress who deserves this kind of exposure. So we felt that she deserves to be given a role in a sitcom. It’s her first sitcom and it’s a first for her to act in full comedy and I know, even before we started, that she can deliver,” Bossing said.

The senior TV host and comedian also commended Maine’s ability to do comedy and praised her for being such a natural talent.

“She has a very good timing. If you get to watch her in Barangay Jokers: Pamilya Nunal, you could sense that there’s timing in the way she drops a punchline, may dating at hindi ‘yung tipong basta binasa lang ‘yung script.”

In terms of her improvement, Vic further said that he has witnessed how Maine has evolved as an actress-—from a seemingly timid girl who just wanted to have the job done to someone whose passion is now visible in everything she does and takes everything in her showbiz career seriously.

“You could see how she was able to level up as an actress. I must admit, I saw her as if she just woke up and she was there. I mean hindi n’ya feel but I’ve seen her progress as a performer. We felt that Maine has begun to put into her system the joy in what she does,” he shared.

“I’m still in a process of exploring the things that I can do in showbiz, though I can also feel that I have improved, I’m just thankful that there are people who guide me in this process,” Maine said in turn.

The new sitcom, directed by Chris Martinez, sees Maine plays daughter to Vic and Wally. Most of the scenes are on location and filmed with cameras meant for movie production.

As the title suggests, the program centers on Maine as the “Daddy’s Gurl” who grew up in Batangas in the loving arms of her father and with the guidance of her mother, who apparently perished and just connects with her through an apparition.  The sitcom premieres tonight on GMA.

“It’s comedy but I am positive that people can pick up something from the lessons that we would be imparting in every episode,” Maine ended.
