A day before the filing of Certificates of Candidacy for the coming midterm elections in May 2019 polls, reelectionist Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito officially left his father’s political party, the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino, and took his oath as member of the Nationalist People’s Coalition.
Interviewed after taking his oath before Senate President Vicente Sotto III, the party’s senior adviser, Ejercito divulged it was a hard decision.
“Of course, it’s difficult to leave the party of your father. I just want to clarify that while we have disagreements, I am not cutting ties with him as my father. My love for him is still there. I owe my life and my upbringing to him,” he said.
Ejercito said he jumped boat because he believes there should only be one candidate from their family who should run in the same position under the same political party.
The reelectionist senator initially planned to join PDP-Laban but opted to move to NPC since Jinggoy Estrada is also seeking a Senate seat for the second time under the ruling party of former Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III and President Rodrigo Duterte.
