Romyl Jornacion scored 13 points and hit the game-winning triple with 10 seconds left and the Rizal Spartans captured their first win with a 70-67 win over the Quezon City Rising Stars last Saturday in the National Basketball League at the Antipolo Sports Hub.
The three-pointer by Jornacion in front of his hometown fans lifted the Spartans to their first win after losing their first three games of the league for homegrown talents.
Bernard Repato topscored for Rizal with 15 points, while Benjie Jimenez had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Nomar Isla-coached squad.
Nikko Lao had 11 points, while Mark Puspus had 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks for Quezon City but the Rising Stars fall to 1-2.
In the other match last Saturday, Ferdie Limin had 15 points as the Marikina Shoemakers picked up their second win in four tries with an 82-75 win over the Paranaque Aces, which dropped their first game in three outings.
The Laguna Pistons, meanwhile, beat the Dasmarinas Ballers, 87-82, last Sunday at the Hagonoy Sports Complex in Taguig City behind 22-point effort of King Fadriquela. The Pistons hold a 4-1 win-loss slate, while the Ballers slid to 1-3.
Richmond Gilbero had 15 points as the Taguig Generals won over the Bulacan Makabayan, 81-74, to improve their slate to 3-2 as the league now shifts to Nueva Ecija this coming weekend for two doubleheaders.
