The annual Korean Film Festival recently unreeled at the SM Megamall Cinema, giving mallgoers a glimpse of Korean history and culture through its very carefully selected movies.
No less than Lee Seok-hoon, director of the festival’s opening film The Pirates, flew in from Korea to attend the launch, and to give a special talk highlighting the Korean Film Industry.
A joint project of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines (KCC), and SM, this year’s festival theme is “Time Travel.” With that, viewers can travel back in time with five historical and classic films. Each film tells a story from the past which in turn inspires a deeper understanding of Korea’s cultural diversity.
Through the festival, Filipino audiences will see the masterful storytelling, acting, and technological advancement in Korea’s thriving film industry in the festival’s five featured films. These include The Pirates, Assassination, Warriors of the Dawn, Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet, and The Nameless Gangster: Rules of the Time.
The festival was also featured at SM Cinemas in key cities around the Philippines – at SM City Baguio, SM Lanang Premier in Davao, SM City Iloilo, and SM City Cebu.
The Korean Film Festival is one of the many exciting cross-cultural events at SM Cinema.
