Storm brewing over Mindanao

Another low-pressure area could become a tropical cyclone and enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday or Tuesday, the weather bureau said Thursday.

Gener Quitlong, a forecaster of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, said the LPA was spotted 3,225 kilometers east of Mindanao or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

“It is likely to develop into a tropical cyclone to enter the country by Monday or Tuesday,” he told the Manila Standard.

Once it enters the PAR it will be named “Queenie,” Quitlong said.

But he said the LPA was still too far to make a forecast necessary.

Meanwhile, typhoon “Paeng” remained quasi-stationary while maintaining its strength.

Quitlong said Paeng would not make landfall and would exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday.
