I caught up with some of the finalists of The Clash, the original reality singing competition hosted by Regine Velasquez on GMA. They were introduced to the press via a media conference where each of them had to perform a two-minute piece and tell the attendees why they deserve to win.
Everyone had the same answer – it’s their dream and music is already part of their life that’s its almost void of meaning without it. In fact, some of them even gave up “something important” just to be part of the show.
After witnessing the regional auditions in Baguio in February and its Manila leg last summer, it’s easy to understand where they are coming from. They’ve faced numerous hurdles just to pursue their love for music and, somehow, for the love of having a more comfortable life that comes with stardom. Take note, The Clash grand winner will have an exclusive management contract with GMA Network and will take home P1 million cash, a brand new car and a Bria house and lot.
After some intense battles in the past rounds, not to mention some dramatic turns, 12 aspiring contenders are now vying to become the very first The Clash grand winner.
Representing Luzon are Anthony Rosaldo of Valenzuela, Mirriam Manalo of Pampangga, Melbelline Caluag of Bulacan, and Garrett Bolden of Olangapo.
Visayas bets are Kyryll Ugdiman of Iloilo, Lyra Micolob of Davao, Esterlina Olmedo, Danielle Ozaraga of Cebu, and Golden Cañedo. Meanwhile, the Mindanao hopefuls are Jong Madaliday and Josh Adornado of Cagayan de Oro. International clasher Mika Gorospe from the U.S. also made the cut.
And now that they are close to the finals, Regine Velasquez reminds the clashers to always put their hearts into their performances as the challenges become more extreme.
“They should take care of themselves and always choose a good song. And you know while they are here, I want them to put their hearts in every performance, that’s what’s going to make them stand out,” she said.
Meanwhile, executives were reluctant to share more details on what the audience can expect from the show now that there are only 12 contestants vying for the title.
“Since this is an original concept, we can’t really tell what’s going to happen in the next episodes. Things can still change. But what we can assure the audience is that they will appreciate how the show progresses in the coming weeks,” a GMA executive said.
The Clash airs every Saturday after Pepito Manaloto and every Sunday after Daig Kayo Ng Lola Ko on GMA.
