MPCala, Egis installing modern payment system

MPCala Holdings Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., has signed a contract with Egis Projects Philippines to install an electronic toll collection system at the Cavite Laguna Expressway project.

“It’s a first in the Philippines which is a system capable to transact 1,200 vehicles per hour as it passes without any barriers. It is a big jump from the RFID transaction of 700-800 vehicles per hour at present,” said MPCALA and Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. president and chief executive Luigi Bautista said.

“Our objective in using this new toll collection system is for our motorists to experience seamless, fast and reliable cashless transactions, making them spend less time on the road and more time with their families,” he said. “With Egis bringing this technology to the MPTC tollroad networks, we will expect a more efficient travel experience, and also boost tourism, trade, and commerce in the areas being linked by our thoroughfares.”

EPPI president and managing director Jean-Claude Neumann said the toll collection system that MPCala would use was another breakthrough in the industry.

“One of the advanced features of this ETC is the Automatic License Plate Recognition Solution technology which will help motorists experience uninterrupted and faster toll transactions. Through these unhampered transactions, we can lessen their travel time,” Neumann said.

The system is set to be installed in phases after the completion of each section of CALAEX. CAVITEX, meanwhile, will have an upgrade to the existing ETC system designed to be compatible and interoperable with other ETCs of other toll roads.

The CAVITEX is part of the road network being expanded by the MPTC. The company is currently constructing the 7.7-km C5 South-Link which will traverse Taguig, Las Piñas, and Parañaque.

The P34.5-billion expressway will start from Cavitex in Kawit, Cavite, and end at the SLEx-Mamplasan Interchange in Biñan, Laguna.

Calax, one of the largest public-private partnership projects, involves the financing, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of a four-lane, 45-kilometer closed-system toll expressway connecting Cavitex (Manila–Cavite Expressway) and South Luzon Expressway.
