Davao City—The “Libreng Sakay sa Kadayawan” program was a success after almost two weeks of giving free rides to Dabawenyos from SM Lanang to SM Ecoland in line with the Davao City’s 33rd Kadayawan Festival, organizers said Tuesday.
Lawyer Tristan Dwight Domingo, Assistant City Administrator for Administration, said that based on the survey the city conducted on the passengers of the Libreng Sakay, Dabawenyos were satisfied and happy with it.
“The initial feedback that was received by the city would show that the passengers were all satisfied,” he said. “Most of the top comments that we received said the bus was safe and convenient.”
Domingo said this positive feedback is a good sign especially that it manifests that the Davaoeá¹…os are open for the bus system the city was planning to implement.
The city’s primary consideration before transitioning from jeepneys is the safety and convenience of the passengers, he added.
“We do think that we really deserve the best here in Davao in terms of public transportation, and we think that we can achieve that through the implementation of the bus system,” Domingo said.
Once the bus system is implemented, he assured the public the city will commit to designated bus stops, and that minutes of the interval of the buses will be followed strictly.
The city government is hoping to start the bus system before the year ends, but Domingo said they are still studying its possible routes.
The High Priority Bus System is one of the 10 priorities of Mayor Inday Sara Duterte to lessen the traffic congestion and to improve the public transportation of the city. Plans are already in place to help the jeepney drivers find new jobs as soon as the bus system will be implemented, Domingo said.
