NTC holds hearing on new major telco

The National Telecommunications Commission conducted its first public hearing on the rules and regulations over the selection of the new major player in the public telecommunications market.

The public hearing Thursday is one of the steps in the NTC’s rule making process in determining the next telecommunications company, according to the regulatory body.

The meeting, presided by NTC Commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba, was attended by several offices in government, telecommunications experts and legal representatives of companies who were interested to bid.

Philippine Competition Commissioner Johannes Benjamin Bernabe also outlined the commission’s recommendations to the draft directive during the hearing.

Cordoba said the public hearing was second of the seven-step process that also included submission of position papers, finalization, publication, effectivity of the final directive and the bidding process.

Cordoba said the possibility of holding another hearing will depend on the inputs put forward during the hearing, as well as the position papers that will be submitted to the NTC.
