Patriots seek 2nd home win

Parañaque shoots for its second home win when it hosts Caloocan in tonight’s main game of the MPBL Datu Cup at the Olivarez College Gymnasium.

Game time is 9 p.m. right after the match between Pampanga and Batangas City at 7 p.m.

The F2 Logistics-backed Patriots won their first home game against the Cebu Sharks, 81-73, and they’re looking to give their local folks something to cheer about against the struggling Supremos sponsored by Longrich.

Parañaque is also coming off a 73-69 win over Pasay last Aug. 4 and a win over Caloocan will put the Patriots in the company of the Zamboanga Valientes-Family’s Brand Sardines and the Makati Skyscrapers with a 4-2 win-loss slate.

But the Patriots will be facing a team that is likely going to play with a sense of urgency.

The Supremos had lost their last two games, dropping them at 2-3 and coach John Kallos and his troops don’t want to prolong their agony and need to arrest an alarming skid with a victory in tonight’s game.

Another team on a slump is Batangas City, the inaugural staging champion, who had lost back-to-back games and surprisingly found itself atb the lower half of the standings with a 2-3 record.

Head coach Mac Tan dismissed talks than there’s an internal turmoil going on and the team is just playing bad, which led to its early downfall. Against the Pampanga Lanterns, the Tanduay-backed Athletics are out to get out of the hole and get back on the winning track.

“We’re just playing bad, but I don’t think the team is distracted since talks that some of our players are being wooed by PBA teams. That was before. Now, we want to put in the work and hopefully, we can play better against Pampanga,” said Tan.
