The Manila City government conducted a mandatory training for newly elected Sangguniang Kabataan officials under the SK Reformed Act before assuming their respective posts.
Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada said the training of SK officials is to provide these young new leaders of their responsibilities, understand the importance of their functions, and their role in community development.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government office in Manila provided technical assistance by leading the City Management Team, in coordination with the Office of the Mayor and Office of the City Administrator. All Local Government Operations Officers acted as resource persons, facilitators, documenters and admin support staff at the same time.
The training covered topics, such as SK history, decentralization, and local governance, parliamentary rules applied on meetings and crafting of resolutions, planning of programs, and ethical standards for public officials and employees.
Manila City DILG Director lawyer Rolynne A Javier said the training will help provide the necessary skills as government workers before assuming their posts as SK officials.
Republic Act 10742 or the SK Reform Act is required and those who would not be able to attend the training cannot assume their position, Javier warned.
For his part, Mayor Estrada vowed full support and guidance to all newly elected SK officials as he asked them their full cooperation to meet the city government’s programs for the betterment of Manilenos.
At least 4,882 participants attended the seminars, with 499 not attending.
Estrada said the DILG would give continuous education for the newly elected SK officials, mainly to teach them on their role as public servants.
